Tutorial Tuesday: Distressed Emboss Resist Technique

14 October 2008

Yesterday, I showed you my Gossip Girl ACEO. Today, I'll show you how to create the background I used on it. It's a form of emboss resist, similar to the one I showed you a few weeks ago.

Materials:
  • Cardstock
  • Distress ink (at least 2 colors)
  • Clear embossing powder
  • Heat gun
  • Craft mat (optional)
1. Ink the cardstock.
Cover the entire surface of the cardstock with the lightest ink color. This is really easy with Distress ink pads; just turn the ink pad over and rub it directly onto the cardstock. Don't worry about inking the cardstock evenly. It will actually turn out better with variations.

Apply embossing powder to the entire surface of the cardstock. Gently shake off any excess powder.

Carefully pick up the cardstock and turn it over, so that the embossing powder is facing down. Flick the back of the cardstock in several places to remove some of the embossing powder. You can flick hard; you want to have sections of the cardstock with no embossing powder on it at all.

3. Ink the cardstock.
Cover the entire surface of the cardstock with the second ink color.

The ink will not stick on the embossed areas, allowing the first ink color to show through. Your finished cardstock will look something like this.

You can use as many ink colors as you want. Apply them from lightest to darkest and emboss between each layer.
