Materials:
- Cardstock
- Various embellishments: clip art, paper, trim, etc.
- Glue
- Scissors
- Hole punch
This is the template I used to make my cones. Download the template and adjust the size to your liking. Then, print it out and trace it onto your cardstock.

2. Cut out cardstock
Cut around the lines you traced on your cardstock. You will end up having a piece of cardstock that looks exactly like the template.

3. Decorate cardstock
Adhere any embellishments you'd like on your cardstock - scraps of sheet music, clip art, trim, etc. Use whatever you like! It's much easier to adhere these while the paper is still flat.
4. Form the cone
Apply glue to one of the straight edges of the cardstock. Then, gently form a cone with the cardstock, slightly overlapping the two straight edges. Use paperclips to hold the cone together until the glue dries.

5. Attach ribbon
Punch two holes at the top of the cone. Thread a ribbon through each hole and tie it into place.
Tip: If you decorate your cone with a figure like I did, the back side of the cone will probably be heavier. Try to punch your holes toward the back of the cone. This will help balance the weight when hanging.

That is a beautiful decoration! Thanks so much for sharing the instructions. I am always looking for new crafts to do with my daughter.
Wow, this is so clever! I love it! Thanks for sharing :-)
Thank you for the nice comments!
A Touch of Dutch, you may be interested in seeing the original picture with the Santa captain. It says 'Vroolijk Kerstfeest', which I think is Dutch (maybe Flemish). Here's a link: http://flickr.com/photos/suzee_que/3027266219/
Great tutorial and thank you for mentioning about adding papers/ephemera etc. while the cut out template is still flat...it makes sense but I could have seen myself forgetting that!! And a great reminder about where to place the holes for balance. I'm off to try my hand at one!
This will be great to do with the kids at school! Thanks for the idea!
Thank you - this is just what I was looking for. I will be making them for valentine treats.
I just love these!! I'm going to use a version of these for my Civil War Era wedding!! They are sooo cute!
Our garden club is making these for favors for a fund raising luncheon. I've been searching for the correct name. I wish I had read this before we made them. We are gluing tiny bows with a flower on the front and stuffing the inside with dried babies breath and flowers. We made them out of wallpaper glued together from free wallpaper sample books.
