Paper Bow Tutorial

24 February 2009

paper bow tutorialMake a cute bow from old paper - magazines, books, wrapping paper, newspaper, etc. I love this project because it's simple and easy to customize. Giving a gift to a fashionista? Use pages from a fashion magazine. Need something for a bookworm? Use old book pages like I did.
Materials:
  • old paper
  • stapler
  • scissors
1. Cut paper
Cut 4 strips of paper. The size is completely up to you. The larger the strips, the bigger your bow will be. My strips were approximately 1/2" x 7" (1.25cm x 17.75cm). Cut 1 strip of paper that is half the length of the other strips. Mine was 1/2" x 3.5" (1.25cm x 8.9cm).

2. Form the bow
Place 2 strips on top of each other, forming a x or +.

Gently fold the 2 ends of the bottom strip of paper towards the middle. Do the same for the top strip of paper. Staple the folded strips together to hold them in place.

Repeat this process for the remaining 2 strips of paper.

3. Finish the bow
Place one x on top of the other and staple them into place.

Form a loop with the short paper strip and place it on top of the bow. Staple it into place.

I love this project! There are so many fun ways you can personalize it. I'm including a link in my blog because I think brides would enjoy getting creative with this one. As for this old married lady, I'm going to stick them on all the birthday presents I give this year.
