5 Things You Didn't Know You Could Recycle

We all know you can recycle glass, plastics and paper, but what do you do with all that random stuff in your house? The next time you feel the need to purge, recycle and donate as much as possible. You'll be surprised by how many things you can recycle that you never knew about.

1. Compact Fluorescent Lightbulbs: You can recycle these at most hardware and home improvement stores, as well as Ikea.

2. Athletic Shoes: Nike recycles old athletic shoes into sports surfaces for playgrounds, basketball courts, etc. You can drop off any brand of shoes at your local Nike store.
3. Foam Packaging: Bring your packing peanuts to your local pack-and-ship store.
4. Appliances: Contact your local charity to donate working appliances. Many manufacturers and home improvement stores will also take your old appliance for recycling when you purchase a new one.
5. Bicycles: Donate your old bike to Bikes for the World, who collect unwanted bikes and deliver them to community development programs around the world.
