Your birthday has come and gone and you've got a stack of greeting cards that you don't know what to do with. You feel guilty putting them in the bin, but the last thing you need is another stack of paper clutter. Here are
ten uses for old cards - easy, guilt-free and good for the environment.
- Frame them
Most greeting cards will fit nicely in a 4"x6" (100mm x 150mm) frame. Switch the cards out seasonally or whenever you need a change. - Place cards
Cut out pieces to be used as place cards for a dinner party. Make folded or flat place cards to suit your taste.

- Gift tags
Cut out pieces to be used as gift tags. Punch a hole in a corner to thread ribbon through. - Postcard
Cut off the half of the card with the writing on it. You now have a postcard - one side has a pretty design and the back is blank for you to write your message. You can send it using a standard postcard stamp. - Make a garland
Cut circles, triangles or whatever shapes you like out of several cards. String them together to make a garland, bunting or mobile.

- Make gift boxes
Check out this tutorial on making gift boxes from old greeting cards. All you need is scissors, a ruler and a pencil. Put jewellery, chocolates or other small gifts inside. - Recipe card
Cut off the half of the card with the writing on it so you are left with a postcard. Write a recipe on the back. Add it to your recipe file or include it with a gift to a loved one. - Notepaper
Cut several cards in half. Use the blank sides as scrap paper for grocery and to-do lists. - Make a journal
Make your own mini journal from several greeting cards. Pop it in your handbag or give it to your child as a doodle book.
